Pro bono training
Specialist surgical training for South East Sydney Local Health District ophthalmology and hand registrars, fellows and consultants
Our pro bono training focuses on surgical training for eye and hand specialists.
For ophthalmologists, we run regular eye school sessions covering topics such as phacoemulsification, oculoplastics, glaucoma and corneal suturing. Trainees are given access to kitaro kits, phaco machines and advanced simulation technology with the EyeSi simulator. Studies have shown that trainees who use the simulator have fewer complications, and as a result, it’s become a highly sought-after tool. We are currently the only lab in NSW to offer access to it.
For hand specialists, we provide access to microsurgery training and can cater for hand registrars, physiotherapists and nurses who wish to further their skills. We also run microsurgical training for the Master of Surgery at the University of Sydney.
